News of PATHOS: Some ten years ago, Lorna Hinze was visiting Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam and found a group of children with HIV/AIDS that were receiving limited care in an orphanage. She became passionate about doing something to improve their lot. Through a chance meeting at the home of a mutual friend here on the Gold Coast, Deirdre heard of Lorna's plans to make a difference and Hopewell adopted her program of Positive Aid to HIV-affected Outreach Services (PATHOS). This link gave Lorna a better profile for talking to the government in Vietnam and, over the years, we have been able to provide Lorna with encouragement and to be a sponsoring body through which financial assistance could reach her. Now her work has been taken up by a North American charity with additional funds and she feels able to return home. She has been a courageous worker for children and families affected by this terrible disease, and has enabled treatments to be given that had not been available before. We have been privileged to be part of Lorna's work and we wish her well in the adjustments that returning home will require. Thank you so very much. With my heartfelt gratitude and my very best wishes to you. ......Lorna Hinze, PATHOS. |
